The concept of stacking favourite records in a painting was conceived from a line drawing which helped the composition. Many photos were taken to balance the content into visuals and then some digital editing but it was best to use records from my collection. Yes they were played in the studio on rotation.
The painting includes an Epic records Lp, Gladys knight, Marvin Gaye, Dire Straights, Blues Brothers, Kool and the gang, Stevie Wonder, Massive Attack and a Roni Size 12” single.
Included in the 2019 New light prize which toured the U.K. in 2021.

10 Favourites was featured in the Retro Still-life solo show at Ground level gallery for London gallery weekend in 2021.

The painting includes some important Dance music albums with some 12” singles included. Bomb the Bass “Don’t make me wait”, The Family Foundation “Express Yourself”, The Chemical Brothers, Leftfield, 808 state, Shades of Rhythm, The Prodigy and Fatboy Slim.

45 & Stylus was created to celebrate the 7” single format. Featuring an iconic Technics SL-1200 MK2 turntable and Ortofon Concorde DJ MK2 cartridge.

The Technics SL-1200 MK2 featured in the painting is is widely regarded as one of the most durable and reliable turntables ever produced and one of the pieces of technology that have "shaped the world we live in". Most DJ's will consider these turntables grand class for beat-mixing and scratching with vinyl. This was shown alongside some vinyl collection work I painted on a public studio residency in The Muse gallery Portobello road, a place surrounded by record shops.
